Cellenis® PRP - Platelet Rich Plasma

What is PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. PRP stimulates cell growth, regeneration and rejuvenation through the actions of platelets, growth factors and stem cells, all from your own body.

PRP stimulates new skin cells, collagen and elastin productive resulting in plumper skin, with less fine lines and wrinkles. Skin looks healthier and rejuvenated. PRP is also used to stimulate hair follicle growth to improve male and female baldness as well as improving hair quality. 3 treatments at monthly intervals can increase hair count by 25-40%.

What should I expect?

Following your consultation, a sample of blood is extracted and placed in a centrifuge machine to separate the red blood cells from the plasma containing platelets.

Numbing cream is applied to areas to be treated and then the PRP is injected back into your scalp or face to stimulate rejuvenation and cell growth.

The treatment takes about 1-2 hours depending on how many areas are treated. You may have some redness around the injection points for a few hours and a ‘tight’ feeling for a day.

Depending on what area has been treated, you may start to see results in the next few days, or in the case of hair growth stimulation, it may take a few weeks to see the benefit due to the length of the natural hair cycle. We recommend having a course of 3 or 5 treatments a month apart.

The Cellenis® system

At Dr Becky Aesthetics we use the Cellenis® system, an FDA approved system that is the leading system in the US and fast becoming popular in the UK.

It has a special Gel  that prevents contamination of the platelets and plasma with red blood cells.

The Cellenis® system increases the concentration of platelets in the plasma by 4-5 times that in the bodies natural plasma.

The amount of PRP that the system yields is greater than in other systems.

The anticoagulant in the collection tube has a neutral pH, preventing the sting you might feel with other systems.

What areas can be treated?

PRP can be used on the face, neck and scalp.

see below for more information

Face and Neck

PRP is used to stimulate cell devision, new cell formation. The plasma sample is injected into the skin where the platelets release growth factors to aid the rejuvenation of skin. PRP activates new cells plumping the skin and increasing collagen and elastin, leading to a reducing in fine lines and wrinkles an improving the quality of the skin. It can be used to combat the signs of ageing and improve facial scaring due to acne.

Scalp for hair loss

PRP can be used to stimulate the hair follicles in the growing phase of the hair cycle. It improves the quality of the hair follicles, which can appear thicker, and it speeds up the growth of the follicles. It can be used for both male and female pattern baldness, as long as there are hair follicles in the area being treated to stimulate. PRP is sometimes used following hair transplants to stimulate growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the side effects?

PRP has very few side effects as we are using a sample of your own blood. The main ones are those from the needle; redness, bleeding, bruising and pain. You may experience a ‘tight’ feeling around the area treated for about a day.

How should I prepare for my consultation?

You do not need to do anything to prepare for the treatment. You should discuss any medical conditions at your consultation. It is advisable to not take any anti- inflammatory (NSAIDs) e.g. Ibuprofen in the preceding 48 hours as these can inhibit the PRP from having maximum benefit.

What should I do after the treatment?

Avoid makeup and products for the rest of the day. If you have scalp treatment avoid having your hair cut or coloured for a few days.

A full written aftercare summary will be given to you following your treatment and we’re always on hand to discuss any questions you might have.

What follow-up should I expect?

You do not need any follow up. However we recommend a course of 3 or 5 treatments one month apart for optimum results.
