What happens at a PRP treatment?

PRP, Platelet Rich Plasma, is a fantastic treatment using your own plasma to stimulate rejuvenation and skin/hair growth. But what does the treatment involve?

Firstly your practitioner will discuss how PRP can help and what areas you want to target. They will then go through the consent process and take some pictures, this is great to look back on and see the improvements.

You will then have a sample of your blood taken and this will be placed in the centrifuge machine for 10 minutes to separate the blood. Your practitioner will then apply some numbing cream to the areas being treat. Whilst that is working the PRP will be drawn up into syringes ready for use.

Once the cream has worked your skin will be cleaned to prevent infection, then the PRP is injected very superficially (close to the surface of the skin) with a tiny needle, in separate injections about 1-1.5cm apart.

Sometimes people feel a slight sting however most of the injections you will not feel. Your skin might feel tight where the PRP has been injected.

Expect to get some little raised areas (like hive), these may last a few hours.

Any PRP left after all the areas have been injected will be massaged in to the skin.

Your practitioner will provide you with aftercare. This is very simple, avoid makeup and products for 24 hours. If you have had scalp treatment, try to avoid washing your hair for 24 hours and use a sulphite free shampoo when you do, and avoid hair colouring or cutting for a few days.

PRP works best if done in a series of 3 or 5 treatments about a month apart, so don’t forget to schedule your next session approximately 4 weeks later.

It really is that simple, then sit back and wait for the benefits to show.
